We travelled south for the day to County Wicklow and visited
several spots associated with film-making. One was the beautiful estate called
Powerscourt. Laurence Olivier's Henry V movie was partially filmed here in 1943.
The estate building was originally built in the 1700s but burnt down in 1974. So,
the house is not the real attraction: the gardens are. We didn't have time to walk
and enjoy all of them! It's a 1000-acre estate! The gardens were designed and created
by Daniel Robertson from 1745-67, and include everything from Italian gardens (note
the photo of the perron using granite and pebbles from the town of Bray, near
Powerscourt) to the beautiful winged horses leading to Trition Lake, to a Japanese
garden, to a Pet Cemetery. I didn't get all the pictures I wanted as my flash died
and I didn't have the spare. Their official site is:
