We visited Belleek Pottery and took the tour explaining how the
pottery is made...and bought some beautiful pieces to bring home.

We went on to Sligo, a town and county associated with the Nobel Prize-winning
Irish poet W. B. Yeats. His mother's family had a shipping business here, and he loved the area.
At the Yeats Memorial Building, the President of the Yeats Society spoke to us to explain why
Yeats is associated with Sligo and then we had some free time for exploring and for lunch. I
include photos of the charming town of Sligo. We all wished we had more time in Sligo!

It was during lunch here, in a pub, that Bill and I finally were able to get some Red Sox news! All we knew at this point, (Tuesday noon Ireland time) was that the Yankees had won the first game. As we ate our sandwiches and sipped our beers, we looked up at their big screen TV and saw Big Papi hit that game-winning single...and the Guinness and Harp suddenly tasted extra sweet.
From the town, we went on to Lough Gill for a cruise and poetry reading. The
scenery was wonderful and the cruise relaxing! We started our cruise on Lough Gill from
the pier at Parke Castle:

W.B. Yeats wrote many poems based on his love of the beauty around the lake:

During the cruise, the captain read poems written by Yeats referring to places we were looking
at. He also told us of the sea monster on Lough Gill. If you look at one of my photos, you will see the
monster...he reminds me of Sleeping Giant in Hamden.
